Roger W. Smith, FSA, MAAA - President

Mr. Smith is President of PolySystems and is a principal owner in the firm. Mr. Smith has led the development of PolySystems’ actuarial applications from valuation systems to advanced projection modeling systems. Mr. Smith has developed systems to analyze experience, for product development, to support FAS 97, FAS 120, and FAS 60 calculations, and to help companies save money in maintaining complex actuarial systems. He has been involved in over 60 installations of the company’s software and has lead in the development of solutions for reinsurance reporting, cash flow testing, experience reporting, management accounting, and tax reporting. Mr. Smith is the former chair of the SoA Technology Section and was a member of the AAA LFRIC committee. He has spoken at many SoA meetings on utilization of new technology to solve actuarial issues. Mr. Smith’s experience in the industry began in 1974 after graduating from the University of Michigan. After working in a dynamic stock company environment, he joined PolySystems in 1981.

Robert T. Arendt, CPA

Mr. Arendt is Chief Operating Officer responsible for administrative and financial areas of PolySystems. Prior to being hired in 1992, he was PolySystems’ Account Manager for six years at the CPA firm of Friedman, Eisenstein, Raemer & Schwartz (FERS). Mr. Arendt’s background includes 22 years experience in public accounting and banking, beginning in 1974. He majored in accounting at John Carroll University where he earned a BS degree in Business Administration.

Jeffrey B. Brunk, FSA, MAAA

Mr. Brunk is Vice President and joined PolySystems in 2005. His duties include assisting clients with installations of PolySystems’ software, providing support for existing clients, and providing actuarial consulting services. Prior to joining PolySystems, Mr. Brunk gained valuable financial reporting experience in life and annuity valuation area of a large insurance holding company. His financial reporting experience includes the statutory, tax, and GAAP valuation of traditional life insurance, universal life insurance, and deferred annuity products. Mr. Brunk received a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from Ball State University and began his actuarial career in 1982.

Rebecca A. Evans, FSA, MAAA

Ms. Evans is Vice President whose main focus is writing programming specifications for new products and features. Ms. Evans has made significant contributions to the development of Projection Reports, Measure, SOE, Asset Delphi, the Life product suite, and many of PolySystems’ utility programs. She was instrumental in the implementation of SOP 03-1 processing in Projection Reports. Prior to joining the development team, Ms. Evans worked in the production area for five years installing FAS 97, FAS 120, and statutory valuation systems at several companies. Prior  to joining PolySystems in 1993, Ms. Evans worked for a large stock life insurance company. Her areas of expertise include product development, valuation techniques, cash flow testing, investments, technical analysis, and actuarial programming. Ms. Evans entered the insurance industry in 1988 after graduating from the University of Illinois with a BS in Actuarial Science.

Catherine M. Gainer

Ms. Gainer is Vice President. She installs and maintains history gathering and valuation software and supports their effective use of the systems. She works closely with users to customize software, which includes writing administration systems extracts, fund reconciliation and documenting. She has previous experience in system testing, troubleshooting and client support. Ms. Gainer has experience as both a programmer and as an actuarial assistant. She earned a BS degree in Mathematics at Northern Illinois University and began her career in 1987.

Timothy P. Gaynor, FSA, MAAA

Mr. Gaynor is Vice President whose main focus is managing the software testing department. In his early years at PolySystems, he made significant contributions to the development of AnnuityMaster, specifically support for Guidelines 33, 34, 35, 39 and FAS 133. He also spends time reviewing and developing regression tests and procedures in order to maintain quality products. Mr. Gaynor speaks annually at the SOA/PolySystems education week and has been a speaker at SOA valuation meetings. After graduating from Marquette University with a BA in Electrical Engineering, Mr. Gaynor began his actuarial career in 1990.

Robert S. Keating

Mr. Keating is Vice President and presents PolySystems’ products and services to interested parties. He is experienced in PolySystems’ software solutions and applications addressing valuation, management reporting and experience analysis, and in general, allowing companies to better manage their business. Mr. Keating has been with PolySystems since 1994 and has 20 years of experience in insurance software applications. Mr. Keating is a graduate of the University of Illinois, having earned a BS is Psychology.

John H. Klemke

Mr. Klemke is Vice President and manages a portion of PolySystems’ development programmer team. He also works on the development and maintenance of a number of PolySystems’ C language systems. Prior to rejoining PolySystems in 1989, John worked for a mainframe manufacturer, several application software companies, and a computer consulting/education firm. He holds a BS in Mathematics from the University of Illinois. Mr. Klemke began his career in 1967.

Victor W. Kwong, FSA, MAAA, CFA

 Mr. Kwong is Vice President. He is involved in the implementation of PolySystems’ traditional and universal life systems. Prior to joining PolySystems in early 1997, Mr. Kwong worked for a small life and health insurance company along with a leading annuity company. He has experience in valuation, product development, policy illustration as well as actuarial programming. Mr. Kwong began his career in 1993 after graduating from the University of Illinois with a BS in Actuarial Science.

Robert J. Lemke, FSA, MAAA

Mr. Lemke is Vice President. His current responsibilities comprise project management, systems installation and consulting services. Mr. Lemke works with the Traditional Life, Health, Universal Life and Annuity Systems. He has performed as a member of the Testing and Development areas for LifeMaster, LifeDelphi, HealthMaster and HealthDelphi. His experience includes valuation, financial reporting, forecasting, and cash flow testing. Mr. Lemke’s insurance experience began at a large stock life company in 1989 after earning a BS degree in Statistics from the University of Illinois.

Chester M. Lozowski, ASA, MAAA

Mr. Lozowski is Health Practice Manager. He works closely with clients and his focus is to identify and understand client needs. He then develops and recommends innovative, achievable solutions and can also help the client to implement those solutions and achieve closure. Mr. Lozowski has had a variety of assignments and responsibilities as an actuary, and has extensive insurance industry management experience. He began his insurance career in 1967 when he was a college student at Providence College. He graduated from PC in 1969 with an A.B. in Mathematics. Immediately before joining PolySystems, Mr. Lozowski had been an independent consulting actuary for 6 years, and previously he had spent his career working for stock life and health insurance companies.

David C. McManus

Mr. McManus is Vice President and leads the data processing aspects of FAS 97 and FAS 120 installations. He has a broad knowledge of various commercial administrative systems and their master-file structures. He has successfully resolved complex problems associated with interfacing PolySystems software and client administrative systems. He has been actively involved in both start-up and maintenance of the systems at our clients. Mr. McManus has been very active in exploring and implementing the movement of systems to the PC/LAN environment. His efforts have led to significant financial savings and improved reporting for clients. Mr. McManus’ experience as a developer and user of actuarial software began in 1971. Before joining PolySystems in 1987, Mr. McManus worked for eight years on the original development of an IBM mainframe life administration system. He was involved in writing, maintaining, and installing the actuarial, daily cycle, and new business systems. He was in charge of all software development for eight years at an actuarial corporate modeling firm. Mr. McManus earned a BA degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Texas.

Eileen A. Mertens, FLMI

Ms. Mertens is Vice President and manages a portion of PolySystems’ development programming area. She is also responsible for development and maintenance of ULMaster, ULDelphi, AnnuityMaster, and AnnuityDelphi. Her background also includes database programming experience along with GUI development. Ms. Mertens received her BS in Computer Science from Northern Illinois University. She began her career at PolySystems in 1991.

Brett E. Morris, FSA, MAAA

Mr. Morris is Vice President and has extensive experience installing PolySystems’ software for many companies. He was instrumental in the development and introduction of PolySystems’ traditional life system. He is an expert in PolySystems’ traditional, universal life, and annuity systems. Prior to joining PolySystems, he gained valuable business experience both as a consultant in a public accounting firm and as a member of a mutual company actuarial department. His expertise includes modeling, financial projections, reserving methodologies under statutory and GAAP, reserve analysis, and reinsurance. Mr. Morris has lead many large engagements in the U.S. and Asia. Mr. Morris’ insurance experience began in 1986. Mr. Morris earned a BS degree in Mathematics from Benedictine University with a minor in business and economics.

Thomas A. Nace, FSA, MAAA

Mr. Nace is Vice President and heads PolySystems’ Eastern Office in New Jersey. He is responsible for servicing clients and providing support on new system installations as well as providing actuarial consulting services. Mr. Nace was formerly the editor for The Financial Reporter, the newsletter for the Financial Reporting Section of the Society of Actuaries, and later served as the chair for the Financial Reporting Section. Prior to joining PolySystems, Mr. Nace had been responsible for the corporate actuarial functions at a medium size mutual life insurance company. He was one of the first to have implemented GAAP for Mutuals in accordance with FAS 120. He has a vast background in modeling, including the implementation of a company’s corporate model as well as an asset liability program based on option pricing concepts. He was an appointed Actuary for five years. Mr. Nace graduated from Drexel University with a BS in Mathematics and entered the insurance industry in 1973.

Gary A. Stanton, ASA, MAAA

Mr. Stanton is Vice President in PolySystems’ Eastern Office in New Jersey. He has extensive experience in both designing and installing PolySystems software. Mr. Stanton was heavily involved in the design of the firm’s current suite of software products. He is currently assisting a wide range of clients with installing PolySystems software and improving efficiency and productivity. Mr. Stanton spent several years at a large individual insurer doing product development, financial reporting and forecasting. Mr. Stanton’s career experience began in 1975. Mr. Stanton earned a BS degree from the University of Nebraska.
