What type of work do you do at PolySystems? What are your responsibilities?
I manage part of our software development area. I also do some programming for our UL and Annuity software.
How does your work help your clients be ready for what's next? How has your and your team's work made an impact for your clients?
My team has most recently enhanced our software to allow for compiled user formulas instead of interpreted formulas. This can result in a huge decrease in runtimes for many clients which is especially helpful when large numbers of scenarios are being run or when they have a very short turnaround time to produce results.
Tell us about your professional activities.
I am a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). I am also a Microsoft® Certified Developer.
What excites you about your work? How is it helping you grow and be innovative? What do you find most interesting or compelling about your work?
I am very interested in finding ways to use new technology to enhance our software. It is always challenging to find ways to adapt our software to handle changing regulations as well as our client's new requirements while maintaining all of our current functionality. As data sets get larger and calculations become increasingly more complex, we need to find ways to keep ahead of the curve.
What do you enjoy most about working at PolySystems?
The people! PolySystems has a very talented group of software developers and actuaries who make my job easier and more enjoyable than at any other company where I have previously worked.
Do you have a mentor at PolySystems?
Most definitely. A couple of our experts were instrumental in my career development. More than one Poly employee went out of their way to help fix a particularly elusive bug or took time to teach me their debugging tricks. I have also been very lucky to work with a number of patient actuaries who have helped me immensely by translating "actuary" into English.
