What type of work do you do at PolySystems? What are your responsibilities?
I assist clients in system implementation projects and provide actuarial consulting services in financial reporting.
How does your work help your clients be ready for what's next? How has your and your team's work made an impact for your clients?
Financial reporting is going to require more and more complex financial models. Clients will be faced with the challenges of understanding models with complicated product features and stochastic projections. Our systems can produce a variety of reports to help our clients understand the results. In addition to providing practical solutions, we help our clients understand the process and analyze the results so they can make the best use of the financial information our systems produce.
Tell us about your professional activities.
I am a member of the SoA Financial Reporting Section Research Committee and was the Treasurer of the SoA Financial Reporting Section (2006–2008). I was a member of the Project Oversight Group of the SoA IFRS Research Project and the Principle-Based Approach Research Project. I have also been a speaker on valuation topics at meetings sponsored by the SoA and local actuarial clubs.
How did you come to work in this line of work? What experience do you bring to your job at PolySystems?
I was a summer intern at PolySystems many years ago and have been in the actuarial profession since. I have worked in different areas at PolySystems: as a programmer, tester, and production actuary. I also have experience in auditing life insurance financial statements at a public accounting firm.
What do you enjoy most about working at PolySystems?
I enjoy working with the people: both coworkers and clients. Many are my long-time friends.
What skills do you need to do your job at PolySystems?
My job requires a combination of skills: knowledge of actuarial systems, financial reporting, and project management and client communication. I need these skills to understand client needs and provide practical solutions.
