What type of work do you do at PolySystems? What are your responsibilities?

I manage the software testing area. Additionally, I help test and design new and enhanced annuity features to support current cutting-edge products developed by our clients.

How does your work help your clients be ready for what's next? How has your and your team's work made an impact for your clients?

Our testing and regression work ensures that we maintain quality software. A production environment is critical for our clients reporting and management activities.

Tell us about your professional activities.

I'm a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. I followed the VACARVM process from its infancy. I have presented at the PSI/SoA Reserves Seminar for 10 years. I was a speaker at an SoA Modeling Seminar presented by the Financial Reporting Group. I have led workshops at the SoA Valuation Actuary Symposium.

What experience do you bring to your job at PolySystems?

I've had numerous jobs ranging from hot dog boy, to caddy, to basketball official, to technician, to auditor/consultant. The one thing they all have in common is working with people.

What skills do you need to do your job at PolySystems?

I need to be a good listener. It's critical to understand what people want so that I can help shape a solution. It's also very important to do things in a consistent manner. It's rare that you only do things once. If you keep in mind that "I might have to do this again," you might be more careful the first time and have a better plan and ultimately design a better solution.

What have you learned about yourself while working at PolySystems? How have you grown?

I've put on about 5 pounds.

How do you lead your team?

By example, by communicating, and by being honest.
