What type of work do you do at PolySystems?
What are your
responsibilities?
As Chief Operating Officer, I oversee all activities not relating to production, sales or development. This would include all financial, contractual, and human resource activities.
How does your work help your clients be ready for what's next? How has your and your team's work made an impact for your clients?
My client contact involves drafting License Agreements, Service Agreements, billing and collection.
Tell us about your professional activities.
I am a CPA with Certificates from Virginia and Illinois. I am currently licensed in the State of Illinois. I have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio (a suburb in the "Heights" area east of Cleveland). I was educated by the best Catholic teaching Orders in the country: the Franciscans (grammar school), the Christian Brothers (high school) and the Jesuits (college).
How did you hear about PolySystems? How is it different than other companies you have worked for?
I worked for a public accounting firm called FERS (now McGladrey), and was Poly's account manager. I then joined Poly in 1992 as their COO. PolySystems is different from my experience at other companies. The public accounting firms I worked for were "sweat shops," especially during the first fourth months of the year, "tax season." At Poly, you get the feeling that family time is just as important as client time.
What do you enjoy most about working at PolySystems?
Most definitely the people at Poly. And this all stems from Roger's attitude about creating a worker friendly environment. Family is an important consideration at Poly.
What skills do you need to do your job at PolySystems?
Accounting and tax skills, people skills, and just enough legal knowledge to know when to solicit help from our outside attorney.
How do you lead your team?
I have always felt a good leader lets his/her team do its job. You provide the guidance and assistance when needed or required. A good leader constantly trains his/her team without the fear of being replaced.
The lighter side – tell us something about yourself.
A die hard Cubs and Bears fan. I have season tickets to both. Also an avid golfer; can never get enough golf.
I am remarried (20 years) with three kids (from my first marriage) and six grandkids.
I come from a family of nine, and I am the middle child. I have two older brothers and sisters and two younger brothers and sisters.
